Daniel Richards | English – Technical and Professional Writing
Dr. Daniel Richards has been serving as Assistant Professor of Technical and Professional Writing in the Department of English since 2013. He received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of South Florida and his M.A. and B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada. He currently researches risk and disaster communication, both the technical documentation used by various stakeholders and the ways in which risk gets constructed in public discourse.
Megan McKittrick | English – Rhetoric, Writing, and Discourse
Megan McKittrick has been a full-time Instructor in the Department of English at Old Dominion University since 2011. After receiving her MA with distinction in Rhetoric and Composition from Old Dominion in 2008, she served as an adjunct instructor and worked part-time as a public relations specialist and freelance writer. She is currently pursuing a PhD in English, with an emphasis in Rhetoric, Writing, and Discourse. Her research interests include professional and technical writing, as well as game-based learning, and sound studies.
Vukica Jovanovic | Mechanical Engineering Technology
Dr. Jovanovic received her Dipl.-Ing and M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from University of Novi Sad, Serbia. She received a PhD in Technology at Purdue University and is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Engineering Technology, teaching classes in the area of mechatronics and computer aided engineering. Her research interests are: mechatronics, robotics, digital manufacturing, product life-cycle management, manufacturing systems, ergonomics, reverse engineering, RFID, and engineering education.
Julia Romberger | English – Technical and Professional Writing
Dr. Julia Romberger is Associate Professor of English in Technical and Professional Writing and has been at Old Dominion University for over ten years. She graduated with a Ph.D. from Purdue University in Rhetoric and Composition and obtained an M.A. in Literature from Kutztown University. Her research and teaching interests are in many areas, most notably writing pedagogy, visual rhetoric, and assessment.
Pilar Pazos-Lago | Engineering Management and Systems Engineering
Dr. Pilar Pazos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Management & Systems Engineering. She received her Ph.D. from Texas Tech University (2005) in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Engineering Management and a minor in Applied Statistics from the Rawls College of Business. Her research interests include: Knowledge Management, Organizational Learning, Collaborative Learning, Group Decision Making and Performance, Virtual Teams, Team Dynamics, and Engineering Education.
Orlando Ayala | Mechanical Engineering Technology
Dr. Orlando Ayala received his BS in Mechanical Engineering with honors (Cum Laude) from Universidad de Oriente (Venezuela) in 1995, MS in 2001 and PhD in 2005, both in Mechanical Engineering from University of Delaware. He is currently serving as Assistant Professor. His research interests are multiphase flows, turbulent flows, particle-laden flows, compressible flows, heat transfer, numerical modeling, and high performance parallel computing. He is member of the Committee of Spanish Translation of ASME Codes.
Kimberly Baskette | Human Movement Sciences
Dr. Kim Baskette currently serves as the Health and Wellness lecturer in the Exercise Science program. She is also the director of the Wellness Institute and Research Center in the Department of Human Movement Sciences. Dr. Baskette received her Ph.D. in Occupational and Technical Studies from ODU with a research focus in health and fitness amongst school-aged youth. She holds a M.S. Ed in Health and Physical Education from Virginia Tech and is a certified ACSM Health Fitness Specialist.
Joshua Behr | Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center
Dr. Joshua G. Behr is Research Associate Professor at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC). Dr. Behr received his training at the University of New Orleans specializing in urban and minority politics. He applies a systems science approach to the study of structural environment, policy interventions, and choice of health venue on under-served populations. He also researches the capacity of vulnerable and medically fragile populations to prepare for and respond to SLR and severe storm events.
Petros Katsioloudis | STEM Education and Professional Studies
Since 2008, Dr. Petros Katsioloudis has served as an Associate Professor, Industrial Technology in the Department of STEM Education and Professional Studies, Old Dominion University. In this time, he demonstrated consistent growth by conducting research on improving teacher performance in STEM education, and enhancing a national STEM-educated workforce; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in industrial technology/engineering education; and serving his academic and professional communities.
Yaohang Li | Computer Science
Dr. Yaohang Li is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Old Dominion University. His research interests are in Computational Biology and Scientific Computing. He received the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from the Florida State University in 2003 and 2000, respectively. After graduation, he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a research associate for a short period of time. Before joining ODU, he was an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at North Carolina A&T State University.
Hua Liu | Political Science and Geography
Hua Liu is an Associate Professor. She received a Ph.D. in Geography from Indiana State University in 2007 and earned a Master’s degree in cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Wuhan University, People’s Republican of China (P.R. China) in 2003. Liu’s principal areas of research include remote sensing and GIS analysis of environmental and ecological systems, climate change, land-use and land-cover change, urbanization impacts, and natural hazards management.
Xixi Wang | Civil and Environmental Engineering
Dr. Xixi Wang, P.E., Associate Professor, holds a Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University and M.S. and B.S. degrees from Tsinghua University of China. He has 25-years global experiences in teaching, research and consulting. His current research focuses on: effects of climate change versus human activity on water resources; evaporation from water-limited soils; hydrology-soil-vegetation interactions in changing climate; storm water, watershed hydrology, and LID; and groundwater/groundwater surface water interactions.
Renee Weather | Information Technology
Renee Weather graduated from Fordham University with a Computer Science degree and attended Polytechnic University, completing her M.Sc. degree in 1995. She’s been an Instructor at Old Dominion University for 18 years and is now a Senior Lecturer in the CBPA. She teaches 300-level programming and architecture courses in the IT department and also teaches an Information Literacy course. She is very happy to be part of the STEM faculty learning community.
Patrick Bahls | University of North Carolina, Asheville (Guest Speaker)
Dr. Patrick Bahls has taught at University of North Carolina, Asheville for nearly ten years. Currently Associate Professor of Mathematics and Director of the University Honors Program, his research focuses not only on mathematics but on writing and writing instruction in the quantitative disciplines. He has led over two dozen workshops and seminars on writing in the disciplines and writing to learn at conferences and colloquia nationwide. He is the author of Student Writing in the Quantitative Disciplines (2012).
