Dr. Patrick Bahls, a well-known figure in “writing in the disciplines” (WID) and “writing across the curriculum” (WAC), will join the first workshop as a guest speaker and facilitator, and the Faculty Learning Community will explore his book Student Writing in the Quantitative Disciplines (2012) as a means of initiating our conversation.  Dr. Bahls has taught at University of North Carolina, Asheville for nearly ten years. Currently Associate Professor of Mathematics and Director of the University Honors Program, his research focuses not only on mathematics but on writing and writing instruction in the quantitative disciplines. He has led over two dozen workshops and seminars on writing in the disciplines and writing to learn at conferences and colloquia nationwide.
